[edit] Gerard's notes on the RICH model

A number of thoughts on the Rotterdam Industrial Complex Holistic (RICH) model:

[edit] Sites and Installations

  • the RDF for a specific SITE and INDUSTRIAL installation should include
    • time of installation / start-up
    • in use / maintenance / mothballed / shut down
    • time of mode change
    • reason: if we include this information, we can make a (simple?) depiction of the complex evolution over time

[edit] Industrial Process

  • each (commercial/proven) industrial process should have
    • a generic process instance in the database / semantic wiki
    • the possibility of adding specific instances (adding: TechnologyOwner or something alike: default: generic)

[edit] Industrial location or site

  • each industrial location or site should have
    • single owner or (campsite) manager
    • multiple tenants (e.g. the site around Huntsman)
    • each tenant / owner deploys a series of processes with
      • specific capacity (name plate, current)
      • utilization

[edit] Industrial material or flow

  • each process has a number of flows
    • these flows consist of materials
    • very often these are commercial materials (e.g. methanol, gasoline, kaoline, magnesium etc.)
    • it these are chemicals, very often much is known and stored in wikipedia infoboxes
  • SHOULD WE INCORPORATE THESE for below calculations??
    • e.g. composition, molecular weight, etc.
      • I think the work of Fabienne is interesting to examine to understand the issues surrounding this, since she is incorporating this level of detail into the ontology. In general, it's good to collect this information by default, from there we can figure out the best/most useful ways to use it. ChrisDavis 09:32, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Representation and Mass Balance Calculation

  • graphical representation of the industrial complex preferable
  • simple matrix calculation module to determine the I/O of a particular complex
    • possible connection to LCA-module -- CO2 and other characteristics
    • leads me to think: we need to figure out top-down versus bottom-up organisation in the database w.r.t. what belongs to what
      • do we add an attribute to each industrial process - belongs to complex or location x with capacity y and utilization z
      • or do we define this by describing the instances of complex or industrial region or what
      • we need some clever way to combine the two (?) --> present users with a form, e.g. on styrene - propylene oxide plant, and allow them to list known locations
      • and industrial region - allow them to list known industrial processes and their owners?
